Sukhoi Su-27 of Russian Air Force
A reconnaissance aircraft of the Air Force of the United States was intercepted by a plane SU-27 Russian in an "unsafe and unprofessional manner" while flying a route routine in international airspace over the Baltic Sea, he said on Saturday Pentagon.
"The US aircraft was operating in international airspace and at no time crossed into Russian territory," said Laura Seal, a Pentagon spokesman.
The incident comes shortly after Russian planes repeatedly sounded the USS Donald Cook, last week, including an incident on Tuesday that a Russian Su-24 flew 9m above the ship in a "profile simulated attack" according to the European Command of the US Army.
Russia has rejected the action was reckless or provocative. "This intersection unsafe and unprofessional air has the potential to cause serious damage and injury to all crews involved," said the seal Thursday's incident.
"More importantly, unsafe and unprofessional actions of a single pilot have the potential to unnecessarily escalate tensions between countries."
