Northrop Grumman Receives Funding From US Navy For X-47B Combat UAV

28 June 2014. United States Navy keeps to increase its ability to do all duties. The next project will be the unmanned air vehicle, the carrier-based UAV seems to be an answers.

Northrop Grumman, the aircraft maker has received additional funds from the US Navy. About US$ 63 million applies to X-47B of Northrop Grumman, one of the biggest carrier-based UAV. They called it UCAS-D programme or the unmanned combat air system  demonstration.

The spokesman of US Navy states that the development activities will include testbed, flight test and aircraft systems of X-47B. In April 2014, separated flight test has been performed, covered night time operations in Maryland facility. In this flight test funding has distinguished with another project.

The UCAS-D programme most has been covered from Northrop Grumman yet US Navy has another project to be offered. Unmanned carrier launched airborne surveillance (UCLASS) also offers to aircraft manufacturer. Currently, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Boeing are bidding for the UCLASS programme. UCLASS programme is expected to enter the service in 2020.

In addition, UCAS-D development began in 2007 worth to US$ 635 million budget. The Northrop Grumman X-47B has demonstrated on carrier landing capability and air refueling, which cover all US Navy' requirements. Northrop Grumman has several UAV products such as, the MQ-8C Fire Scout the rotor-craft UAV.
